Tremain Veterinary Group is a small-animal practice established in the early 1970s. The website describes in-house diagnostics (lab work, ultrasound and X‑ray) plus a wide set of routine services (vaccinations, parasite control, neutering, microchipping) alongside referral services in areas such as orthopaedics, cardiology, internal medicine and soft-tissue surgery. Reviews are mixed: several owners mention good communication about costs and gentle handling (for example during nail clipping), while others report serious issues around access to appointments, follow-up not happening after a promised call, and feeling the practice prioritised money over care.
Based on the clinic website summary and the reviews, services and capabilities mentioned include
Emergency arrangements (as stated on the website): support is provided during normal hours by contacting the practice; out of hours, emergency care is provided by Medivet Woodstock with full-time night staff.
Animals treated (from the website): dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters and ferrets.
Accreditations (from the website): RCVS Core Standards; Cat Friendly Clinic (Silver).

Disappointing service, poor care towards my very sick dog. Felt they weren't listening to me.

So very grateful to all at the Carterton Surgery, did all they could to help a poor stray with ticks and a very matted coat. Thank you so much!

I am so happy I have found this vets. By far the best vets I’ve been too. The vet that examined my dog was fantastic and did all the tests I was after for my pooch - all the tests were done to to a great level - really stood out to previous vets I have been too. I also liked how I was made aware of the cost of examination and treatments to give me that option. The vets has a really lovely feel good feeling to it - I look forward to it being my permanent vet from now on.

I’m only putting a star on here because I have to , to write this review . What can I say , this veterinary practice is far more concerned with money than animal care . Took my Staffie in with a swollen eye . The vet has basically left the dog without any form of care . He didn’t want to give the dog antibiotics as he was more interested in charging me a grand for unnecessary dental treatment . So we’ll now be looking for an alternative vet with some compassion and love for my pooch .. As it was I couldn’t get a vets appointment for 3 weeks in Carterton because all the vets were on holiday . Event the veterinary receptionist suggested that the only concern of this practice was money , that should have been a red flag for me .. Now I’ve seen it for myself ..

We have always used Tremains Vets firstly in Witney then latterly in Carterton. Its not been a fleeting relationship - Tremains has been the family vets for as long (if not longer) than I've been alive. Always found them to be very helpful and never had a problem. We use Carterton as the surgery is smaller (and we live about 5 mins walk away) and my Labrador who to be honest is a plonker around other animals is much more comfortable there. Absolutely disgusted that when I rang up as my dog was really unwell and needed a vet to be told they don't have a vet in Carterton for over two weeks - they only have Witney and then only the ONE vet. REALLY? No option really, had to find another practice and quick, found their competitors and got an appointment very quick. Only to have salt rubbed into my wounds when Tremains ring and ask why another vets practice are wanting my dogs records. In short a customer lost, when I needed Tremains most they weren't there. When my dog needed them in an environment he trusted close to home, they weren't there. They abandoned us, so its time to abandon them.

I took my dog to Tremain's for a nail clip as having many black nails iv been to scared to attempt myself as iv gone to far before. I was not allowed in due to current pandemic reasons but I could hear the two vet girls reassuring my dog with lots of love and treats after every few clips, after the session my dog came out of the room looking all happy and spoilt. Lovely girl vets with a genuine heart for pets.

I had a diagnosis of grade 4 heart murmur for my dog. The vet I saw on the day realised I was very worried. She told me she would arrange for a scan and call me to advise. That was two weeks ago. I called the surgery after a week and got the impression she had forgotten but would be given my message. Another week has gone by without a word. This is totally unacceptable and unprofessional for a veterinary practice who are supposed to care about the animals needing their expertise and help. I will never go to this vet again and suggest others do not do so.
